What is a wiki page?

A wiki is a group of web pages that allows users to add information in a collaborative way to build information on a particular topic. It permits others to freely make changes. Wiki software is the collaborative softwareused to run a Wiki system. Collaborative software, also known as groupware, is application software that integrates work on a single project by several concurrent users at separated workstations (see also computer supported cooperative work).

How does it work?

Editing a Wiki page is simple. Just click on the "edit this page" tab at the top (or the edit link on the right or bottom) of a Wiki page. If you are on wikapedia, this will bring you to a page with a text box containing the editable text of that page. HTML, such as JavaScript, cannot be used on wiki pages.

People would want to use wiki pages to find out more information on a subject or to communicate with people who are interested in the same subject.

to edit a wiki page you find a page you want to edit and click the edit button, when you edit it try to follow the same format as the rest of the page you might want to copy a portion of a page with the same format to what you want to add it is easier if you just type it in your own words though.

When was the term invented?

Ward Cunningham invented the wiki concept in 1995. The term "wiki-wiki" means "quickly" in Hawaiian and was preferred by Cunningham over "quick-web". Cunningham used the term "wiki" after riding on the "wiki wiki" or quick buses at the Honolulu Airport.

enter the username you desire in the **Sign In** box in the bottom right of the page but it has to be appropriate press enter after you find a username you like and your all set log in using that user name every time
